Marlene Ann Brown

September 12, 1931 — January 2, 2022

Marlene Brown (nee Macfarlane) passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of 2 Jan 2022.

She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1931, and grew up in Claremont, California. She graduated from Whittier College and worked in Costa Rica, Venezuela, and New Zealand, as a young woman. In 1965 she moved to Grants Pass, where her parents had retired and remained here for the rest of her life, except for a brief time in Seattle attaining a Master’s of Library Science at the University of Washington.

Many in the community knew her as a farmer; a grower of blueberries, gooseberries, and apples.

She is survived by her husband Charles D. Brown. They were married in 1982 and spent the next 40 years gardening and traveling. She is also survived by her daughter Alison Treleaven (nee Averre) and two grandchildren, Kyle and Darrah Treleaven.

She was happiest in her orchard, her garden, rafting on the Rogue, or digging up rocks in the desert.

A committal service will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2022 at Eagle Point National Cemetery.
