Marla J. Hodges

Marla Jane Hodges, age 67, of Grants Pass, Oregon, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Celia’s House, a loving hospice care home in Medford, Oregon. She died of kidney failure.

Marla was born August 26, 1952 in Shelton, Washington to Mary & Marlin “Whitey” Delzell. Her family soon moved to Grants Pass, Oregon where she grew up and lived her life. She was a hard worker. Working for years for various businesses as a waitress, cook & chef, then in food service at Riverside Elementary School and catering at Bridge Street Market. Then, in her 50’s she developed a rare disease called CIDP that causes damage to your nerves and she could no longer work.

She loved her family dearly and at Marla’s house she always had time to visit and play with the kids. Cooking family dinners and food for her friends brought her great joy as well as tending to her flowers in her garden. She loved a good yard sale and searching thrift shops finding treasures for family & friends. She made life fun, had a heart of gold, said what she thought, and was the best friend you could ever have.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers Barry, Joel, & Timothy Delzell; and her husband James Hodges.

Survivors include her brothers Lonnie & Marlin Delzell, Jr; son Christopher Cooke; grandchildren; Tru Sharp, Kailani Cooke, and Marlin Cooke; 5 great-grandchildren Paytton, Jaxon, Zachary, Leilani and Kylee; and a niece Janae Delzell.

A private family celebration of life is being planned.
