Marjorie Rose Duffus Mackay

Marjorie Rose Duffus Mackay, age 86, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Marjorie was born November 11, 1923 in New York, New York to Asta Kristine Carlsen and was adopted by Robert & Leah Louise Duffus. She was raised in Connecticut and graduated from Staples High School in 1942. In 1943 she completed one year at Stephens College. On February 28, 1948 in Long Beach, California she married Robert Caton Mackay. She spent most of her life working as a nurse and raising her family. She lived in several coastal towns along the California and Oregon Coasts and Hawaii before settling in Grants Pass in 1970. She loved going back to Hawaii as often as she was able and had her last trip there on her 80th birthday.

Marjorie loved gardening, the ocean, spending time with her family, cooking, sculpting, reading, nature and chocolate.

Survivors include a son, Michael Stuart Mackay of Claremore, Oklahoma; a daughter, Patricia Louise Mackay-Schuessler of Grants Pass, Oregon; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Caton Mackay; a son, Robert Butchart Mackay; and a sister, Nairne Louise Wilcox.
