Marjorie Broer Gallagher

Marjorie Broer Gallagher died on Friday, Nov. 27, 2015 at her home in Grants Pass, OR.

Marjorie was born May 25, 1922 in Salem, OR to Fred and Nell Broer. She had two older brothers and a younger sister, all musically inclined. The family even hosted a radio musical show in their home for an hour weekly for a time.

She attended schools in Salem through her high school graduation and attended college at Wheaton College, Wheaton, Illinois, graduation in 1944. She furthered her musical education in New York City and Philadelphia post-graduation.

On Dec. 18, 1948 she married Robert Gallagher in Salem, OR. They moved to Grants Pass in 1952 where Robert worked for the Broer Grocery Company, a family owned wholesale grocery corporation, in which she was a partner along with her parents, brothers and sister. The business was sold in 1980.

A respected piano and flute teacher, she taught over 400 private piano and flute students in the Grants Pass area, retiring from teaching in 2012 after teaching about 66 years. She was an organist for the First Baptist Church, now River Valley Community Church, for 45 years. Marjorie was the treasurer and an active member of the Oregon Music Teachers National Association Rogue Valley District, and member of the PEO Chapter CD for 50 years. She was a founding member of the Rogue Valley Symphony and flutist in the symphony for 10 years.
She was dedicated to teaching her students, liked to travel, and gave support to many musical and educational groups

She is survived by her husband Robert; daughters, Kathleen Gallagher of Grants Pass, OR, Maureen Gallagher of New York, NY, Colleen Giambo of Cos Cob, CT; sister, Kathleen Hamill of Portland, OR; and three granddaughters, Heather Giambo, Jessica Giambo, and Cassandra Giambo.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Fred Broer of Vancouver, WA and Bert Broer of Grants Pass, OR.

The service for Marjorie will be held at the Hull and Hull Chapel, 612 NW A Street, Grants Pass, OR on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd at 11:00 a.m.
