Margaret Green

October 15, 1919 — April 11, 2015

Margaret Green, age 95, of Grants Pass, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2015 at her home.

Margaret was born October 15, 1919 in Big Pine, California. She graduated from 9th grade in Carson City, Nevada, May 17, 1934. Margaret moved to Merlin, Oregon with her mother and stepfather and siblings when she was about 16 years old. She started high school there but quit to go to work to help with family finances. Margaret wanted to go to nursing school, but there was no money available and at that time there were no scholarships available like it is today. She then went to work as a nanny for the Ford family. That is where she met her future husband. On June 9, 1938 in Grants Pass she married Ray Green.

Their goal as a family was to have a happy home because they were both from broken homes. As a result from their childhood they worked hard to build a solid foundation for their four children. They enjoyed living and raising their four children in Grants Pass. The four children graduated from Grants Pass High school.

Margaret loved people and was active in many organizations. She was a charter member of the Caveman Vintage Car Club and a member of Oregon State Extension Unit. She was a 4-H leader and taught the girls to sew. Margaret introduced the “Arts and Craft Classes” at the Vitality Center. She started the classes in her home with 6 ladies making macram chairs.

She has made many wedding cakes and made many quilts. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook. She enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, sewing, and knitting.

Survivors include four children, Barbara Erickson of Farmington, Utah, Patricia Pennington of Grants Pass, Oregon, Donald Green of Oak Harbor, Washington, and Bill Green of Grants Pass, Oregon; a brother, Bud Hargaray of Quartzsite, Arizona; two sisters, Charlene Nicholls of Caldwell, Idaho and Charlotte Deel of Wichita, Kansas; 18 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and 37 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Vere Green in 2010.
