Lucille was born March 27, 1920, in a lighthouse on the Missouri River in Sioux City, Iowa, to Charles & Lucille Holmes. She was the oldest of eight children. She was born and raised in the country in Iowa and attended school in a one room school house. On July 27, 1940, she married Harold William White and they settled down on a small farm. Harold raised hogs while Lucille raised chickens. When World War II began they moved to Connecticut where Lucille worked in an air plane factory painting parts. Later Harold & Lucille settled in the San Francisco Bay area where Harold worked in the shipyards and Lucille had their first child. While in San Francisco, she taught preschool. They moved to Southern California where their son was born. In 1972 the couple moved from Buena Park, California to Grants Pass. Lucille was always a homemaker and active in church where she taught Sunday school to the younger children for many years.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Rogue River Branch. With assistance from Harold, she was instrumental in establishing the Family History Center at the Grants Pass Stake Center and was the Director of the Center for 13 years.
She loved genealogy. Harold enjoyed vegetable gardening and she enjoyed flowers. She enjoyed canning the vegetables from the Harold’s garden. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Patty Shealy of Grants Pass and a son, Danny William White of Ashland; a sister Charlotte Bartlett and a brother, Charles Holmes both of Iowa; two grandchildren and three great-grandsons.
Her husband died before her on August 27, 1997.
