Louie G. Bishop

Louie G. Bishop, age 79, of Grants Pass, died March 20, 2017 at The Suites.

Louie was born February 27, 1938 in Mingus, Texas. In 1955 he graduated from Winters High School in Winters, California and from 1955 to 1963 he served in the United States Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge, he went to work for Sacramento County as a deputy sheriff. From 1960 to 1975 he worked both as an investigator for Sacramento County Sheriff and Sacramento Police Departments. He later owned and operated various restaurants throughout Northern California and Oregon, most recently Poor Lou’s Caf in Grants Pass. He moved from Sacramento to Grants Pass eight years ago.

Louie was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Republican Party. He also volunteered at the Grants Pass Vitality Center.

Louie loved reading, crossword puzzles, and watching westerns, especially John Wayne westerns. His greatest joy was visiting with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren of whom he was very proud.

Survivors include his children, Valerie (Frank) McEwen, Linda (Floyd) Brown, Janet (Nathan) Wolstegel, Julie (Ted) Licos, Mark (April) Bishop; sisters, Joyce Morris and Linda Long; grandchildren, Darek, Erica, and Brian McEwen, Jaci (Adam) Cumpiano, Courtney (Eric) Watson, Annie Brown, Kelli (Patrick) Hunt, Michael (Donna) Connor, Brad (Britany) Connor, Daniel Bishop and Gracelynn Bishop; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie E. Bishop and Gladys Mozelle Bishop, sister Joan Duncan; and brothers, Jimmy and Tommy.

Private services will be held at a later date.
