Lois W. Smith

Lois W. Smith, age 83, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at her home.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Lois was born December 26, 1926 in Cottage Grove, Oregon to Morton V. & Echo G. (Craig) Welden. In 1945 she graduated from Cottage Grove High School. She moved to San Francisco, California for several years, and then returned to Grants Pass to raise her family. Lois was the long-time bookkeeper for Riverside Motel and Restaurant. In later years she moved to Haines, Alaska working as a bookkeeper for a lumber mill, and then returned to Grants Pass to retire.

Lois’ passion in life was her children. She had a warm heart, generous spirit and open door to those in need. Many of her children’s friends still called her “Mom” and she was “Grandma Lois” to their children.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and volunteered for the Christmas Basket Program.

Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles and gardening.

Survivors include her children Lisa (Smith) Santos of Grants Pass, Oregon, John W. Smith of Portland, Oregon and Katie Smith of Portland, Oregon; two brothers, Glenn C. Welden of Grants Pass, Oregon and John C. Welden of Dallas Texas; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
