Lois Jones; April 28, 1940 – December 7, 2014

Lois LaDeane Limbaugh Jones was born 28 April 1940 in Griswold Iowa, the third child of Howard P. and Lela Osler Limbaugh. Lois grew up in and around Griswold and graduated from Corning High School in 1957. Following graduation she attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, relocating to California where she met and married John C. Jones on 18 July 1959, while they were both students of Orange Coast College.

Lois received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Stanislaus State College in Turlock, California. Lois taught elementary school in Merced, California and taught as Primary and ESEA teacher in Elementary Schools in Grants Pass. In the mid-70s Lois left education to work as an administrator at Newman United Methodist Church and later at the real estate office she and her husband founded, JC Jones Realty now Century 21 JC Jones American Dream.

Before being slowed down by a brain aneurism in 2003, she was a spark plug of cheerfulness and ingenuity. Lois was active in the American Association of University Women, loved antiquing and especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends. A serious fall a few years ago left her confined to a wheel chair in declining condition. The last few years found Lois at home surrounded by her family and the angels who took care of her.

In these past years of failing capability she never ever complained; a brave and strong woman who had several earthly Angels to look after her and allow her husband to still have some freedom. Anastasia Hendrick and Gwen Dodd, her granddaughters, got her going regularly, and. Kristina Dodd, her daughter, had been with Lois nearly every minute of her last days. Eva Stroh, a CNA loved and cared for Lois for 11 years; Valerie LaFleur, helped her get up mornings and get ready for dinner then for bed for 5+ years; Theresa Young helped keep the house clean. She worked extra hours just to be with Lois. Angels all!

Our first kiss, on the beach at Corona Del Mar made me dizzy! Her kind smile always warmed my heart, and her solid judgement kept me in line. She was a good sport, putting up with my outdoor adventures, tolerating the uncertainty of starting my real estate career, even eating wild mushrooms (the next day after I ate some). She was an excellent teacher, then keeping our real estate office running smoothly up until her brain hemorrhage in 2003.

She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Lela Osler Limbaugh and her infant brother Larry Limbaugh. She is survived by her husband John C. Jones, her daughter Kristina Jones Dodd, Granddaughters Anastasia Dodd Hendrick and Gwendolyn A. Dodd all of Grants Pass, Grandson Jeremiah J. Dodd of Tucson, AZ, four great grandchildren and sister Lucille Limbaugh Field. She is also survived by her angels who cared for her: Eva Stroh, Valerie LaFleur and Teresa Young.

Her last weeks she called out to me “Johnny, Johnny.” She died peacefully in bed with her husband, Kristina and Anastasia at her side. I already miss her and feel the great emptiness of our home! In lieu of flowers, any memorial gifts can be to the Saint Vincent De Paul Kitchen in Grants Pass.

Amore tu Lois; You are my Sunshine!

John C. (Johnny) Jones
