Lloyd C. Evensen

Former Grants Pass resident, Lloyd C. Evensen, age 90, of Central Point, died Friday, November 16, 2012 at his daughter’s home.

A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors. Private interment will be at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Apple Valley, California.

Lloyd was born December 4, 1921 in Ismay, Montana to Alf & Gladys Evensen. He was raised in the Eugene, Oregon area. On January 13, 1942 in Portland, Oregon he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and fought in many skirmishes including Guadalcanal, British Solomon Islands, Tarawa Atoll, and Tinian in the Marianas Islands. Lloyd was wounded in action while serving his country and in 1945 was honorably discharged. He lived in Long Beach, California and worked at the shipyards before beginning work in the auto glass industry. In 1978 after 20 years in the business he retired and moved to Grants Pass, Oregon. He divided his time at the homes of his daughters in Central Point, Oregon and Apple Valley, California.

While living in Grants Pass he attended Cornerstone Baptist Church and was a member of the Marine Corps League and the 2nd Marine Corps Division.

His hobbies included riding his motorcycle, camping, roller skating, and dancing.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Bursick of Central Point, Oregon and Sherry Cron of Apple Valley, California; a son, Don Prather of Menifee, California; a sister, Elaine Rising of Grants Pass, Oregon; eight granddaughters; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
