Lillian Janet Speelman

Lillian Janet Speelman, age 83, of Grants Pass, died January 24, 2019 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.

Lillian was born July 14, 1935 in Vale, Oregon to Ernest Leroy Lucas & Priscilla Underhill Lucas. On May 31, 1953 in Winnemucca, Nevada she married James Speelman and they lived in Ontario, Oregon. In 1955 they moved to Grants Pass. James worked at Alpine Meat Company and in 1979 the family purchased the business. Lillian worked as a meat packager from 1970 retiring in 2004.

Lillian enjoyed her volunteer work as a member of the Project Linus Quilting Club, a nonprofit organization which lovingly provides homemade blankets to children in need, including babies in the hospital and foster children.

Her hobbies included quilting; reading, especially pioneer/wagon train books; crocheting; and watching old westerns on television.

Survivors include her husband James M. Speelman; daughter Janet and Joe Peters, their children Amanda and Adam; son Dan and Diane Speelman, their children Sarah and Denver; son Joe Speelman all of Grants Pass; son Roy and Jacki Speelman, their children Eli, Chase and Madeline of Monmouth; sister Rosella Slocum of Tacoma, Washington; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by siblings Dora, Mary, Frank, Grace, and Dan (Lillian’s twin brother).

A celebration of life will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 2, 2019 at Jerome Prairie Bible Church with Pastor James Downing officiating. Private interment will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.
