Lila Maria Layman

Lila Maria Layman, age 82, of Cave Junction, died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabiliation Center.

A viewing will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Father Bill Holtzinger officiating. Interment will follow at Glendale Memorial Cemetery.

Lila was born October 18, 1926 in Munising, Michigan to Fred & Nina Chartrand. She married her husband, David William Layman in Sacramento, California and they were married for 52 years. She lived in Glendale for many years before moving to Cave Junction nine years ago.

She was a member of the Catholic Church. She volunteered with numerous foundations including many hours with St. Vincent de Paul and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She was also a councilperson for the city of Glendale.

Lila and her husband won numerous awards at Christmas time for their home Christmas decorations. Her hobbies included camping, fishing, rock hunting, collecting old bottles, and yard sales. She was a CB Radio Operator with her handle being “YoYo”. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and sister.

Survivors include two sons, Fred Layman of Cave Junction and Perry Layman of Coos Bay; a brother, Fred Joseph Chartrand of Santa Rosa, California; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Jan Chartrand.
