Larry Diltz

January 13, 1939 — February 9, 2020

Laurence T. Diltz (Larry), of Glendale, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020, from complications of Parkinson’s Disease.

He was born January 13, 1939, in Los Angeles, California, to Edward Kaiser and Mary McPherran and was moved to the Quines Creek area with his grandparents when he was four years old. Larry graduated Glendale High School in 1956. In June of that same year he married Lynne Martin.

Larry worked for various logging companies until he took a job with Loren “Fat” Bartle which began a 35-year career of the construction of Forest Access roads, aka permanent logging roads. He supervised road construction from Eugene to the north and south to Bakersfield, California. Larry maintained blaster’s licenses for both Oregon and California and liked to reminisce about some of the hair-raising tales that occurred, including one gentleman just driving around sightseeing who had no idea what people yelling FIRE IN THE HOLE meant and came close to taking home a big stump in the back of his pickup!

Larry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lynne Diltz; son Laurence Jr, daughters Kimberlee Solomon and Melanie Caruth; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by a son Wendell.
