Keith E. "Bud" Woodward

Keith E. “Bud” Woodward, age 89, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Newman United Methodist Church with Pastor Melissa Harkness Haugen officiating. Private military honors will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

He was born July 26, 1919 in Central City, Nebraska to Edwin & Ida Woodward. In 1925 he moved with his family to Grants Pass where he attended Jerome Prairie Grade School and graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1938. During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Corps as a Glider Pilot where he earned several medals and other honors. After the war, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Oregon College and his Master of Science from the University of Oregon. He taught schools and coached at Grants Pass schools for 34 years, retiring in 1979. In 1952 he married Merle Hershberger who passed away in 1999. He later married Evelyn Cameron.

He was very active in Elks, Grants Pass Kiwanis, Civil Air Patrol, Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, Oregon Education Association, and Retired Teachers Association.

He also volunteered as a driver working with the Food Bank and served on local and state committees.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; two nephews, Jerry Walden of Scappoose and Ted Walden of Wasilla, Alaska; a niece, Jeanette Cox of Medford; a stepson, Delbert Lane of Topeka, Kansas; and many honorary grandchildren.
