Katie Ellen Holt

January 23, 1932 — May 27, 2018

Katie Ellen Holt passed away on the 27th of May 2018 at the age of 86 in her home in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was with her family at the time.

She was born on 23 of January 1932. Katie was the youngest of 3 children born to Gus and Ruth Jones in Sweetwater, Texas. Her early years were spent mostly in southern California. Her father was a section boss for the Southern Pacific Railroad and frequent moves were required. The family lived in railroad company provided housing near the tracks for which her father was responsible.

Katie graduated from Ventura High School in 1950. She married first at the age of 18 to Lester Chilcott. She worked in various health care fields such as radiology and dentistry and later she worked in the Rosicrucian headquarters in San Jose, California. Mostly she worked at home taking care of her family.

Katie had long been interested in photography, even creating a dark room at home for developing her photos. She was an avid quilter and entered some competitions. Her biggest passion was in exploring the spiritual nature of life. She had many close friends and long lasting ties with those that shared her passions. Some of those friends said they would tell Katie funny stories because they liked to hear her laugh.

She and her husband Jack retired to Rogue River, Oregon in 1989 where they quickly became involved in the community. She was active in many volunteer activities including reading in the school classroom for the Rogue Valley (Start Making a Reader Today) program.

Jack Holt, her husband of 38 years, and daughter Jennifer Pedersen, preceded her in death.
