Mama Made Quilts

My mother was called home to the Lord this week. I have been left with the task of writing my memories of her. I didn’t know where to begin - late at night while roaming I came across a handmade quilt mother had made. I ran my hands over it feeling the textures. I looked at all the vibrant colors – each panel designed with its own personality and look – but all hand stitched onto the same background. Her own hand stitching made the quilt strong, warm, and secure – always to endure.
I began to realize the quilt represents myself and my four sisters – each with our own personality – sharing the same background and heritage, each stitched together to form the tight family mom created – to endure time and always stay together.
Yes Mom, we will always remember you and appreciate the pattern that my sisters and I share, the lessons you taught – to be passed along to our own families.
Be with the Lord Mom – your work here is done.

Your loving daughter,
Merry Walker

She is survived by four children, Nancy Diane Brolliar of Cave Junction, Oregon, Joan Carol Saxby of Townsend, Montana, Merry Kathleen Walker of Cave Junction, Oregon, and Charlotte Ann Hansen of Elk Grove, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hector Lionel Gibbons and a daughter, Beverly June Gibbons.
