Judith Grannis

February 18, 1943 — September 27, 2011

'I'm only human and other imperfectly perfect things' was the title of the first of her three books of poetry, and a motto for her life. She had a hard childhood and stood firmly in the gap of generations past as a transitionary, determined to raise her children with immense love.

And that she did.

She taught 'regardless of your circumstance, you get to choose your response.' She learned this profound lesson in part, teaching herself to read as a teenager with dyslexia. To these challenges she mused:

Life is unfair I must confess
It teaches the lesson after the test
If you don't learn the first time through,
You're tested and tested until you do.

She especially related to the under dog, sought them out and taught the virtue of overcoming all things through Christ. She knew Him personally and relied on the merits of his infinite atonement to the very end.

Even in her final months, she challenged herself to fix things around the house. With sweat streaming down her chin and out of breath you could hear her whisper to herself 'I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.'

Her spirituality and scholarly gospel knowledge kept her 'one foot in this world and one foot out'.

She was almost completely unattached to worldly things and trends. Her little mobile home was sufficient, and filled with 2nd hand things, many broken. She taught that people were more important than things.

Judith Blazed her own trails and was opposed to conventional medicine. Through her extensive study of natural alternatives, she helped many people heal. She beat the odds with a strong will, battling breast cancer for nearly 15 years with many comebacks in it's final stages.

She wasn't afraid of change and laughed about how life would be so boring without the challenges and struggles that mold us fit for the kingdom of God.

With faith unwavering, she felt called to struggle through trials of both the flesh and the spirit for the benefit of humanity.

Mom, you proved yourself one of the 'noble and great ones'. You left earth better than you found it. Soar to the heights of your heavenly origins.

Return to Him who knows you best. He loves the 'imperfectly'. Time to upgrade that little mobile to a mansion on high.

We love you. Be with us forever-- your children.
