Josephine Smith Hull

Josephine Smith Hull, age 94, died Thursday, June 14, 2007 in Grants Pass.

A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors in Grants Pass with Pastor J. C. Holden officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass.

She was born March 11, 1913 in Montague, California to O.B. & Rosalie Dollarhide. She graduated from Klamath Union High School and later graduated from Behnke-Walker Business College in Portland. In 1931 she married Lloyd Bunnell Sr; in 1938 she married Franklin J. Smith; and in 1981 she married Virgil Hull; all preceded her in death. She was Executive Director of Southern Oregon Rural Health Protection Association (which became Southern Oregon Health Service and ultimately Greater Oregon Health Service). She was also cofounder of Southern Oregon Medical Center.

Smith Hull was very active in the community. She was a lifetime member of the Assembly of God Church; was active in PTA; chairman of the Josephine County Republican Central Committee; served on the Board of Hillcrest Memorial Park in Grants Pass; served on the Board of Colonial Bank; was a member of the Rogue Valley Grange; was instrumental in the creation of Grants Pass Christian Singles; was one of the founders of Grants Pass Make Today Count (Lovejoy Hospice); served two terms on the Grants Pass School District Board of Directors; and was a member of the Grants Pass Golf Club.

Survivors include four children, Helen Veritch of Kihei, Maui, Hawaii; James F. Smith of Medford; Merrily J. Nealy of Grants Pass; and Maureen Rise of Medford; a sister, Joyce White of Grants Pass; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Lloyd Bunnell; a sister, Helen Dollarhide; and two brothers, Basil Dollarhide and John A. Dollarhide.
