Jonathan Ellery Peters, age 39, of Grants Pass, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at his home.

A remembrance service will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 11, 2013 at Jerome Prairie Bible Church with Pastor James Downing officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Jonathan was born August 20, 1974 in Grants Pass, Oregon. He graduated in 1992 from North Valley High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps until an injury caused his honorable discharge. He worked as a projectionist at Redwood Drive-In and the Rogue Theatre. He attended Rogue Community College and then graduated with Bachelor’s degrees in both Criminology and History. On March 25, 2003 in Grants Pass he married Crystal Smith and they lived in Eugene. For three years they lived in Aberdeen, Scotland where he earned a Masters degree in International Law at the University of Aberdeen. He then began work on his PhD. In November 2005 they returned to Grants Pass where he worked as a clerk at the Josephine County Courthouse until 2007. He then began working toward his PhD while caring for his children at home. He also worked as a paralegal clerk at Oaks Law Office in Medford. He most recently enjoyed being a full-time dad.

Jonathan volunteered at the Grants Pass YMCA.

He was a hard core gaming geek and enjoyed Dungeons & Dragons and Warhammer. He also created a role playing game called Dark Fate.

Jonathan is survived by his wife, Crystal M. Peters; his daughter, MacKyla Peters; his son, Quinn Peters; his mother, Elaine Peters all of Grants Pass, Oregon; his father, John Peters of Merlin; two brothers, Isaac Peters and Jared Peters both of Grants Pass, Oregon; and his grandmother, Maxine Peters.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Nathaniel Peters.
