John R. Shonk

John R. Shonk, age 52, of Rogue River, died Friday, June 15, 2012 at his home.

A celebration of life will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Shonk Residence. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

John Richster Shonk was born December 29, 1959 in Astoria, Oregon to James & Cathy Shonk. He grew up and attended schools in South San Francisco, California. For five years he worked at Sorg Printing in San Francisco. He then started driving truck and currently worked as a truck driver for Walmart. Over the years he received many safety certificates. He moved from San Mateo, California to Rogue River 28 years ago.

He volunteered as a chaperone on his children's school field trips. He was always concerned about the safety of the neighborhood youth and loved having them over to the house.

He was a former Teamsters member.

John loved music and playing his guitar. His hobbies included riding quads, hunting, camping, waterskiing, and other outdoor activities.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl M. Shonk of Rogue River, Oregon; a daughter, Serena A. Shonk of Rogue River, Oregon; a son, Jonathon J. Shonk of White City, Oregon; a sister, Claudette A. Shonk-Ross of Medford, Oregon; a brother, Roger F. Shonk of Rogue River, Oregon; and two granddaughters, AvaRae M. Shonk of White City, Oregon and Raeleigh R. Sandgren of Rogue River, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
