John Jay Weiss

John “Jay” Weiss, age 75, of Grants Pass, died March 23, 2021 at his home from prostate cancer.

Jay was born June 5, 1945 in Sacramento, California to Carl & Velma Weiss. At a young age, Jay learned to operate heavy equipment and won many contests at equipment rodeos. He made his career selling CAT and John Deere tractors for Pape Machinery. In 1993 he moved from Yuba City, California to Grants Pass.

Jay belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Grants Pass Gun Club.

He was always helping and serving others.

After high school, Jay learned to fly plans and he loved to fly. He was a voracious reader, especially Sci-F; and loved to travel, swim, and eat.

Survivors include his wife Louise Weiss of Grants Pass; children Cynthia Matoes of California, Matt Weiss of Idaho, Melissa Kelly of Oklahoma and Jenny Traver of California; stepchildren Darrell Harmon of Utah, Dena Martinez of Grants Pass and Darrin Harmon of California; brothers Wayne Weiss of California and Carl Weiss of Montana; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., April 10, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Merlin Ward, 339 Jumpoff Joe Creek Road.
