Jody Beth Hammer

December 24, 1955 — February 28, 2022

Jody Beth Hammer, 66, gained her angel wings on the morning of February 28, 2022 at home with two of her closest friends by her side.

Jody was born on December 24, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois to Bette and Ray Hammer. Shortly thereafter, their family relocated to California, where her brother, Stephen, was born. In her youth, Jody enjoyed being involved in Young Life and spending time with her friends from church. She attended Rolling Hills High School and Point Loma College, graduating in 1978 with a business degree.

In 1985, she relocated to the Rogue Valley, where she and her mother, Bette, opened a Bed and Breakfast called the Handmaidens Inn. Guests traveled from all over to enjoy their fantastic cooking and hospitality. Before she began working for Sherm Heater Realty in 1991, she worked as a waitress, a caterer, and a shoe saleswoman. Over the years, between work, church and her involvement in the community, Jody made many friends, which she cherished for the remainder of her life. Admired by her peers for her positive attitude, infectious laugh and thoughtfulness, Jody was loved by all with whom she crossed paths. Anything she set out to do, she accomplished. Jody was nominated the first female president of Kiwanis in 1998. For many years she provided meals for families in need alongside her mother. Sending thoughtful cards and gifts for any and all occasions was her particular joy.

Life was an adventure for Jody; she always had exciting trips planned and traveled all over the world including Spain, Maui, and Greece. When she wasn’t traveling, she planned and attended themed parties with some of her closest friends. If Jody was planning a party, you wanted to be on the guest list! She hosted a yearly Christmas brunch with her mother, Bette, which was always a hit!

Jody will be remembered for her vivacious spirit, cheerful smile and the BEST laugh. She was diagnosed terminal 13 months ago and forged ahead with her positive outlook on life. Collecting stylish hats and scarves, and checking off her bucket list, she made the best of the time she had left, always reassuring her loved ones that she knew where she was going and this was God’s plan.

She is survived by her brother Stephen (Jacquie) Hammer, her nieces Shelby (Joe) Ferguson, Taylor (Bryce) Avila—and three great-nieces, Aftyn, Stella and Harper and a great-nephew William. She leaves behind many close friends, who were like family.

A gathering will be held at Edgewater Christian Fellowship March 26th, 2022 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to “Joe’s Place Ministries” in her honor.
