Joanne May (Hussey) Johns

March 3, 1941 — January 4, 2016

Joanne May (Hussey) Johns, age 74, of Grants Pass, died January 4, 2016 at her home.

Joanne was born March 3, 1941 in Grants Pass, Oregon. She was a native Oregonian, third generation Hussey pioneer family. She met Virl Duayne Johns at the age of 16 and married on December 24, 1958.

Joanne, as anybody who knew her will attest, was headstrong, fun-loving, energetic, will-full, and one of the kindest people you could have known. She held grudges longer than she should have, but that just made you work harder to be the person that you should have been all along.

Joanne greatly enjoyed the times she shared with her husband, family and friends; the memories of the fun trips of traveling of the USA, Alaska and Canada.

Joanne also enjoyed the times that she shared with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, camping, rafting, crocheting, knitting and recently discovered the fun of connecting with family and friends on Facebook. When her children were young, she was a 4-H leader and worked on the election board for decades. She was involved with Tupperware in her younger years, and Princess House in her later years. Joanne was also involved in several Bunco groups, loved reading and enjoyed playing games.

To sum up, Joanne was the type of person that loved life and lived every day to the fullest. She made you feel like you were the only one that mattered.

Joanne is survived by her husband of 57 years, Virl Duayne Johns; brother, Robert Hussey; daughters, Cindy May Johns, Cathy Lynn Johns-Day, and Cristy Christine Peters; grandchildren, Wes, Norm, Patrick, Jackie, Shawn, Glen, Carrol and Tina and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by daughter, Connie Sue Johns on October 3, 1961; son, Don Duayne Johns on March 23, 2008; parents, Carrol & Vivian Hussey and oldest brother, Eugene Hussey.

A gathering of family and friends reunion to celebrate Joanne's life will be from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2016 at The Bear Hotel, 2101 Spalding Avenue, Grants Pass, Oregon.
