Jim Gilmer

April 21, 1952 — February 17, 2018

It is with immense sadness that the family of James Leonard Gilmer (known as “Gilmer” by his friends) announces his recent passing after a battle with cancer, on Saturday, February 17th, at the age of 65 years old. Jim will be forever remembered by his sons Jimmy (Janelle) and Cody, his granddaughters, Jordyn and Jade, and his siblings, Leslie, Billy and Dede. He will also be fondly remembered by his nephew, Michael, and nieces, Catina and Ashley, as well extended family and dear friends. Jim was preceded in death by his father, William Gilmer, his mother, Dorothy Gilmer, his grandfather, RH Hammer, and his great aunt, Betty Potts.

Born in Montebello, California, Jim attended Montebello High School, developed a passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and the freedom and fun that came with riding. From one adventure to the next, he moved from Los Angeles to Humboldt County in the early 1970s, then back to SoCal years later, developing meaningful relationships and friendships along the way. He went into business for himself as a contractor where he flourished in the construction industry, living the southern California dream with a strong influence in home building in Laguna, Huntington and Newport Beaches and the surrounding areas of Orange County.

Jim loved the outdoors, old time rock ‘n roll, hanging out at the river, camping, attending music festivals at Red Rocks and Horning’s Hideout and riding his motorcycle across the country as well as travelling to Costa Rica, Switzerland, Sturgis and Alaska.

He happily settled on 11 acres of land outside Grants Pass, Oregon, and spent the last 20+ years fulfilling his life’s dream of developing the property and building his home. His attention to detail and pride in his work are something he will always be remembered for and will live on in the legacy he leaves behind.

A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2018 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, 612 NW A Street, Grants Pass.
