Jeanne Alma Youngblood

July 8, 1934 — May 30, 2010

Jeanne Alma Youngblood was born July 8, 1934 in Los Angeles, California to Stanley R. & Flora E. Doering. She graduated from John Burroughs High School in Burbank, California in June ’52. Later she attended Glendale (CA) College of Business. In her youth she loved to sing and was in school and church choral groups. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior in 1949.

After marrying William W. Youngblood, most of her adult years were as a homemaker, mother and volunteer. For over 20 years she and her family resided on an acre in Winnetka, California where they grew pomegranates, figs and persimmons, and raised many pets. Family and friends always looked forward to her pomegranate jellies and persimmon cookies.

In ’79 she returned to the business field as a Hospital Claims Examiner for Blue Cross of Southern California. Later she was a Directory Assistance Operator for PT&T. While with the phone company she received 26 commendations.

During her last eleven years in California, she volunteered as a West Valley (Team II) Blue Belle; Vice President of Community Support Forum (Valley Bureau); worked in Records at West Valley Division (LAPD); and was a Crime Prevention Specialist.

In 1982 her husband’s poor health led to his early retirement from Litton Data Systems, and they moved to Grants Pass.

For a few years in the ‘80s, Jeanne was an active member of the Humane Society and served on the board. In ’82-’83 she served on Josephine County Jail committee; volunteered in Josephine County Sheriff’s Department (working in Records and Major Crime) and later joined Friends of the K-9 where she was active until her passing. (This group is a non-profit organization which raises funds to purchase, maintain and equip canines for Josephine County Sheriff’s Department. Presently, they have 4 canines to support.)

Jeanne loved her family, friends, pets and home. She enjoyed reading non-fiction books and listening to Frankie Laine, Vaughn Monroe and Perry Como records, and KAJO radio.

She is survived by sons, William W. Youngblood of Denver, Colorado and Robert W. Youngblood of Grants Pass, Oregon; daughters, Katherine “Katie” E. Cates of Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Susan M. Youngblood of Shadow Hills, California; sister, Lisa Beth Doering of Los Angeles, California; and brother, Timothy S. Doering of Virginia; and seven grandchildren.

Her husband passed away in 1993, and her sister, Arlene R. Wolf died in 1982.
