Jean Fosbury

April 17, 1921 — February 16, 2011

Jean Fosbury, a Grants Pass, Oregon resident of 47 years, formally a resident of Wimer, Oregon died on February 16, 2011.

A visitation will be from 12 noon until 1:00 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2011 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Pastor Russ Gibson officiating. Private interment will be at Woodville Cemetery in Rogue River. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

She was the first baby born in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka, California on April 17, 1921 to George Joseph Kellen and Leila Myrtle Buck Kellen. She graduated from Eureka High School in 1939 and attended Beauty School in San Francisco where she graduated second in the state of California. She worked as a beautician during World War II.

She married Russell Johnson on June 20, 1942. They lived in Montana, had a cattle and horse ranch in Idaho and settled on a dairy farm in Wimer, Oregon in 1952 where they lived until 1964. In 1965 she moved to Grants Pass where she married Doug Fosbury on January 31, 1966. Jean was one of the last charter members of the Asante Auxiliary Volunteers, working in the Emergency Department at Three Rivers Community Hospital until December 10, 2010. Jean was also a longtime member of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Posse. Jean traveled extensively throughout the United States with her husband attending his World War II reunions. She was also a member of the local Elk’s Emblem Club.

Her life was spent in giving service to her family, friends and others in need.

She is survived by her husband, Doug Fosbury of Grants Pass, Oregon; her children, Richard Johnson and spouse Jennifer of Grants Pass, Oregon, Nancy Johnson Willis and spouse Craig of Morehead City, North Carolina, Steve Johnson and spouse Connie of Independence, Oregon, Gail Fosbury of Moscow, Idaho, and Dick Fosbury of Hailey, Idaho; 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her children's father, Russell B. Johnson; two brothers, Robert Kellen and Kenny Kellen; and a sister, MaryAnn Johnson.
