James Wesley Morrow

James Wesley Morrow, 83, of Rogue River, died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

To honor and remember James, a memorial service & potluck with live music will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at Rogue River Community Center Annex Hall. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

James was born February 20, 1923 in Morrilton, Arkansas. In March 1943 he joined the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the 235th Engineering Battalion. On February 3, 1946 in Palo Alto, California he married Molly Ruth Townzen. He retired from “FMC” in San Jose, California after 27 years as a machinist. In 1979 he moved from San Jose to Rogue River and purchased the Rod & Reel Motel on Rogue River Highway. After selling the motel, they moved to their home in the town of Rogue River.

Along with his wife, he gave of his time to improve programs and services to the seniors of the Rogue River area. For 18 years he delivered meals to shut-in seniors and helped to bring seniors together with music and dancing by starting Tuesday night jams and Saturday night dances to live bands. He helped turn the Senior Center to a full community center, as his wife wrote grants to put in a new dance floor, thrift store, need repairs, new programs and services to all in the community, both young and old.

James was a member of the Machinist Union and the Moose Lodge.

His hobbies included country music, dancing, camping, and gardening.

In addition to his wife, Molly Ruth Morrow of Rogue River; survivors include four sons, Farrel Morrow of Fox Island, Washington; Jerry Morrow of Carson City, Nevada; Mike Morrow of Warner Robins, Georgia; and Curtis Morrow of Rogue River; a sister, Pat Schaffer of Carlsbad, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, James Doyle Morrow; two sisters, Teelan Carter and Callie Schaffer; and two brothers, Joe Morrow and Howard Taft Morrow.
