James M. Miller

James M. Miller, age 78, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Rogue Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will begin at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Masonic Lodge, 320 NW E Street in Grants Pass. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

James was born on June 5, 1935 in LaPuente, California to John Jefferson Miller & Tennie (Green) Miller. He was raised in and attended schools in LaPuente where he played football and ran track. From 1955 to 1957 he served in the United States Army. For 47 years he drove truck as a long haul produce carrier. Scully Trucking out of Fontana, California was one of the many companies he drove for. He has logged over one million miles of safe driving.

In 1983 he married Marilyn Nieman.

He is a lifetime member of Ainsworth Masonic Lodge, in Salem, Oregon and he belonged to the Masonic Lodge 84 of Grants Pass, Oregon.

James volunteered his time towards Job’s Daughters, the Child ID program, and helped present Masonic scholarships to the middle schools during their 'Movin' On' program.

He loved to read about the Oregon Pioneers. James enjoyed doing Crypto-Quotes, Sudoku puzzles, traveling, and conversations about anything. He never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Miller of Grants Pass; a daughter Lisa Abbott, and two sons, James Miller and Paul Miller, all of Salem, Oregon.

He has 27 grandchildren, and 28 great grandchildren.

James was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
