Jack W. Flinders

October 23, 1926 — August 31, 2013

Jack W Flinders, 86, of Cave Junction passed from this life on Saturday, August 31, 2013.

Jack was born to George and Emma Flinders on October 23, 1926 at his grandparents farm in Cedar Fort, Utah. Like many of his peers, Jack's early years were made difficult by the depression. His parents divorced leaving his mother unable to support her three children so Jack lived with relatives for a time. His happiest childhood memories were the years he spent on the farm in Cedar Fort. Eventually, Jack was reunited with his mother and two sisters in Ogden, Utah where he finished school and met the love of his life. Jack and Lue Dean Gailey were married in 1944 shortly before he began his naval service aboard the escort carrier USS Vella Gulf. Following the war, Jack worked in a variety of jobs spending the majority of his career in the grocery business in California and finally as a civilian employee at Hill Air Force base in Utah.

Following the passing of his loving wife of 57 years in 2001, Jack relocated to Baltimore, MD to live with his son and daughter in law and eventually moved with them to Cave Junction.

Jack was also preceded in death by his two sisters Ruth and Bonnie.

Jack is survived by his son, Rick, residing in Cave Junction, and daughter, residing in Taylorsville, Utah as well as three grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

Jack will be returning to Utah in the fall to rest for eternity beside his beloved Lue Dean.
