Jack Curtis Bryson

September 2, 1946 — October 29, 2016

Jack Curtis Bryson, age 70, of White City, died Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Hearthstone Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Medford.

Jack was born September 2, 1946 in Portland, Oregon to Charles & Margaret Bryson. The family lived in Klamath, Washington where his father and grandfather worked in logging and the family lived in the logging camp. The men maintained and operated the logging steam engine, as well as working as heavy equipment operators. The family then moved to Portland, Oregon and lost everything in the Vanport flood of 1948. Following the flood the family worked hard to relocate in the Portland area and then Springfield. When Jack was in school, the family relocated to Glenwood, Oregon and they lived in the back part of the roller rink while his parents worked in the concession stand. Then the family leased the Cottage Market and Jack helped his mom and dad in the store. He attended Glenwood School and worked for the Register Guard as a newspaper delivery boy, working his way from one satchel to eventually four satchels. At age 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in Vietnam. He was a submarine sonar technician and was on submarines – the USS Darter, USS Finback and USS Lewis & Clark. After his discharge from the military he purchased a laundromat in Junction City which he owned and operated until he medically retired.

Jack was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was an athlete and an outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He always dreamed of farming his own land and traveling to Alaska.

Survivors include his sister, Mary Bryson Given of Oakridge, Oregon; two nephews, Stephen Given and Jared Given; nine grand-nephews and nieces; and one great-grand-niece.

A graveside service with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
