Ida Marie Edgerton

September 19, 1923 — July 1, 2017

Born to Minna Marie Illgen and Paul Meinel on September 19, 1923 in Irwindale, CA. She resided with her parents and siblings until she married Lloyd (Shorty) Edgerton in August of 1943. As a couple, they lived in Minor’s Oaks and Casitas Springs, CA for several years. They then moved to southern Oregon in 1951. Over the next several years, her family lived in several of the surroundings towns of Grants Pass. At that time, in 1956, the family moved to Sunny Valley, where they then resided for 45 years. In 1999, after 55 years of marriage, Lloyd passed away. Ida then sold the ranch and moved to Grants Pass, and lived with her son Carl & wife, Carrie, for ten years. In 2011 she moved in with her daughter, Lorre, who had retired from teaching in Corvallis and had moved back to Grants Pass. When her daughter recently re-married, she then moved in with them, in their new home, until her death,

Ida was an amazing woman who touched the lives of many. Over the years, she was not only a wonderful Mom, but also a Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and a Great-Great Grandmother. She wore many hats during her lifetime, including; farm-hand, gardener, Girl Scout Leader, and 4-H leader. Her most recent hobbies included reading, quilting, doing jigsaw puzzles, sudoku and crossword puzzles. She was also a very dedicated Christian, who loved attending various activities at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Her church family was very dear to her, and she especially enjoyed spending time with the ladies in the LWML and Sew-N-Sew groups that she belonged to.

Ida is survived by her children, Carl Edgerton and wife, Carrie, Lorre Mangrum and husband, Jim, both of Grants Pass, Patrick Edgerton and wife, Sylvia from Concord, CA., and her step-daughter, Sheila Martinez and husband, Sam, from Sunny Valley, eight grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her one sister, Ruth Sutton, from Hugo and one brother, Paul Meinel from Glendora, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd (Shorty) , stepson, Leslie Edgerton of Nampa, Alberta Canada, her parents Marie & Paul Meinel, her brother, Alfred Meinel, and sister Gertrude Atkinson.

Ida was quietly laid to rest at a private grave-side service on July 7th at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 5th & Evelyn in Grants Pass.
