Howard Earl "Whitie" Grass

Howard Earl “Whitie” Grass, age 81, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Three Rivers Community Hospital.

No services are planned. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

He was born April 12, 1928 in St. Albans, West Virginia. He served in both the United States Army and Air Force and participated in the Marshall Islands Eniwetok Atoll Operation Ivy 52’ atomic and hydrogen bomb. On November 25, 1978 he married his wife, Betsey Moniz-Winlund. Over the years he worked as a San Quentin Prison guard, Greyhound bus driver, and PIE truck driver. He also worked for Kraft Foods, Moser Paving Company, Litton Industries, and Harry & David.

In addition to his wife, Betsey Grass of Grants Pass; he is survived by 11 children, Michael Grass of Redding, California and Lynda Kristofferson of North Bend, Oregon, Barbara Robertson of North Bend, Oregon, John Grass of Nebraska, Mike Grass of Grants Pass, Oregon, Phyliss Mendoza of Stockton, California, Larry Wade of Chicago, Illinois, Judy Bumgardner of Grants Pass, Oregon, Mischel Clark of Colorado, Shawna Graybill of Junction City, Oregon, and Brenda Martin of California; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was a son, Kevin in the late 70’s.
