Helen Maxine Hornbeck

Helen Maxine Hornbeck, age 84, of Merlin, died Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at her home.

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, November 20, 2010 at North Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church with Pastor John Witcomb officiating. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Helen was born July 4, 1926 in Holly, Michigan to George & Violet Van Fossen. She moved with her family to Bremerton, Washington where she graduated from high school in 1943. After graduation she went to work in the shipyards for the war effort. On July 6, 1945 in Bremerton she married John Edward Lewis. In 1954 she moved from Bremerton to California where she worked as an office manager and secretary for Dart Trucking Company for 32 years. She also was a self-employed home interior decorator and special occasions cake designer. In 1988 she moved from California to Merlin. While living in the Rogue Valley she was employed with the U.S. Forest Service as a secretary and with Josephine Memorial Hospital as a patient attendant both in Grants Pass. After her first husband died in 1990 she later married LaVerne Edmond Hornbeck on December 5, 1993.

Helen was a lifelong Adventist and attended North Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church since 1988.

Her hobbies include leather crafts, crocheting, and cooking.

In addition to her husband, LaVerne Hornbeck of Merlin, Oregon; she is survived by a daughter, Judy Hubbard of Wonder, Oregon; two sons, David Lewis and Robert Lewis of Merlin, Oregon; a sister, Betty Bell of Claremore, Oklahoma; and a brother, Kenneth Van Fossen of Seattle, Washington; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
