Hazel Ragan Fairchild, age 84, of Grants Pass, died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at an adult foster home.
A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Apostolic Faith Church with Pastor Rob Wakefield officiating. Private interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
Hazel was born April 30, 1925 in Long Beach, California to Thomas & Phyllis Heap. During her early years she lived in Bodie, California and Yerington, Nevada and at age seven moved with her family to Grants Pass. She attended the one-room Fruitdale School and later attended Grants Pass High School and Medford High School. In 1942 in Reno, Nevada she married Oliver Ragan, who preceded her in death in 1959. She enjoyed many years working in real estate as a land developer and speculator.
Hazel was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church.
She enjoyed traveling American and taking several trips to England and Ireland. Her hobbies included gardening and collecting hummingbird memorabilia.
Survivors include three daughters, Verdell Jordan and Loreen Evensen both of Grants Pass and Cheryl Tom of Palisade, Colorado; a brother, Larry Heap; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Ragan; four brothers, Kenneth Heap, Donald Heap, Albert Heap, and David Heap; and three sisters, Romona Stobbe, Dorothy Tompkins, and Hilda Nelson.
