Harold Halstead

Harold Halstead, age 62, of Cave Junction, died Tuesday, December 30, 2008 in Grants Pass.

A memorial service will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cave Junction with Bishop Jack Brown officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, 1200 NW Naito Parkway, Portland, Oregon 97209.

He was born Husten Harold Halstead Jr. on September 9, 1946 in Vallejo, California to Husten Harold Halstead Sr and Lois (Harrison) Halstead. He graduated from Hogan Senior High School in Vallejo, California where he played football and saxophone in the band. He went to work for C&H Sugar in Oakland as a maintenance mechanic for 14 years, then went to work for Kellogg’s Cereals in San Leandro, California for 17 years, and medically retired at the age of 48. On August 24, 1991 in Lake Tahoe, California, he married his lifetime partner of 30 years, Sharon Lee Valdez, who survives. He and his wife moved from Concord, California to Cave Junction in 1996.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cave Junction Ward and was Ward Missionary Leader while in Concord.

He was an avid dancer and enjoyed bowling at least three times a week. He also enjoyed playing pool and darts and was a lifetime San Francisco Giants and 49er’s fan.

In addition to his wife, Sharon L. Halstead of Cave Junction, survivors include a daughter, Tammy Halstead of Suisun, California; a son, Jason Halstead of Cave Junction; a step-son, Matt Leschinsky of Hayward, California; four sisters, Sandra Traini of Anchorage, Alaska; Louise Voice of Cave Junction; Barbara Dickard of Parkersburg, West Virginia; and Christine Hoffman of Vallejo, California; and five grandchildren.
