Harold Blaine Uhlig

Harold Blaine Uhlig, age 91, of Grants Pass, died Thursday, April 18, 2013 at Fair View Transitional Health Center.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 21, 2013 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Grants Pass.

A memorial service will also be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Sequoia Christian Church, 233 Topaz Avenue, Redwood City, California 94062.

Harold was born November 22, 1921 in Roseburg, Oregon to Howard & Willie (Milne) Uhlig. After moving to Klamath Falls, he became a Life Scout and graduated from Klamath Falls High School. He then attended Oregon State College where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. On October 3, 1943 in Newberg, Oregon he married Florence Elizabeth Hubbard, who preceded him in death after 68 years of marriage. In 1943 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and after four years of active duty and 21 years in the Air Force Reserve, he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. In 1949 he moved to Belmont, California and personally built his own house there. From 1946 to 1984 he worked as an automotive engineer for Chevron Oil. In January 2013 he moved to Grants Pass and on January 20, 2013 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church he married Laura Gentner Dunwald.

Harold was a Gideon for over 30 years and served as an elder for 62 years at Sequoia Christian Church in Redwood City.

He enjoyed camping and working on things with his hands, including working on cars and doing maintenance at his church.

Survivors include his wife, Laura Gentner Dunwald Uhlig of Grants Pass, Oregon; three sons, Glenn Uhlig of Redwood City, California, Carl Uhlig of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Gary Uhlig of Everett, Washington; a sister, Dorothy Uhlig of Chiang Kham, Thailand; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
