Gwendolyn Marguerite Snyder

May 20, 1923 — December 16, 2009

Gwendolyn Marguerite Snyder was born May 20, 1923 to early settlers of the Rogue Valley, Andrew and Mary (Huber) Gigler. Grandpa Gigler owned a small bakery and later a dairy farm, while the Huber family had a bed and breakfast both in Grants Pass and Cresent City. It was Mary, having been sent to the bakery to get bread and rolls, that she met the handsome young German baker. Following their marriage, they purchased an auto which became the fourth car in Grants Pass.
As a lifelong Grants Pass resident, Gwen graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1942. As a teenager, Gwen worked on her father’s dairy. During the 1940’s she worked as a waitress at Tracy’s Steakhouse on Sixth Street where she met Wallace Dell Snyder. Wally and Gwen were married on October 7, 1947 being blessed with 58 years of marriage. They were great role models in raising their three children. The Rogue Valley community was impacted in special ways by the lives of Wally and Gwen, which included being charter members of Redwood Christian Church.
Earlier in life, while teaching Sunday School at First Christian Church, Gwen found a love nurturing younger aged children, which she continued to do throughout her life. Gwen was a great homemaker with cooking especially being of great enjoyment to her. She loved to write personal notes of encouragement to others and to collect written inspirational material.
Her survivors include her three children (Steve, Ed, Donna), their spouses, along with their families of children & grandchildren; in addition to the families of her one niece and two nephews; plus numerous extended family members.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband on December 10, 2005; two sisters, Julia and Bertha; a brother, Andrew; and an infant grandson, Daniel.
In her memory, donations may be made to the Missions Fund at Redwood Christian Church, 4995 Redwood Avenue, Grants Pass OR 97527.
