Gregory Lyle Gilpin

Gregory Lyle Gilpin, age 67, of Williams, died Friday, August 26, 2016 in Florence, Italy.

Greg was born June 28, 1949 in Grants Pass, Oregon to Eugene Clifton & Eleanor Asboe Gilpin. In 1967 he graduated from Grants Pass High School and in 1971 graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He worked for 31 years with the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) as a Certified Wildland Fire Investigator and a Certified Level 1 Incident Commander in charge of ODF and Interagency Incident Management Teams. For 15 years he was Forester in charge of the Grants Pass office of ODF. His career assignments were in Grants Pass, Salem, Tillamook and Veneta. He started his career on the Quail Creek fire in 1970.

Greg was a past member of International Association of Arson Investigators, past member and president of Rogue Valley Fire Chiefs Association and past member of Josephine County 911 Board of Directors.

His hobbies included traveling the world to new countries; hunting, fishing, animals, reading, and RVing. He especially loved spending time with his kids, grandkids and his wife and best friend, Linda; and his many friends.

Greg is survived by his wife, Linda Gilpin of 33 years of Williams; daughter, Erin Gilpin of Ashland; brother, Eugene Gilpin of Salem; stepchildren, Brenda Harju of Grants Pass and Robert Beatton of Williams; grandchildren, Madison Gilpin of Portland, James Oaks of Portland, Wild Oaks of Ashland, Amanda Snyder of Klamath Falls, Lilly Hassett of Portland and Rylie Beatton of Kent, Washington.

A celebration of life will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.
