Gloria Goss Hosking

Gloria “Gogo” Goss Hosking, age 93, of Grants Pass, died Friday, February 22, 2008 at Highland House Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.

A visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2008 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2008 at Hull & Hull Chapel with Pastor Brian Boisen officiating. Interment will follow at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens.

She was born September 14, 1914 in Nashville, Tennessee to Leslie & Lorene Goss. She lived in Detroit, Michigan before moving to California and lived in North Hollywood, Inyo County, and Oakland. After returning to Detroit, She married Orville G. Hosking on May 21, 1938. In 1953 she moved to San Diego. From 1956 to 1960 she was an electronics technician and then took college extension classes in drawing and oil painting. For five years she had an art studio in Spanish Village Balboa Park. She also worked as a teacher’s aid for ten years. In 2007 she moved to Grants Pass.

She was a member of the San Diego Art Association.

She enjoyed oil painting, especially the ocean. She also oil painted the desert and flowers and taught her grandchildren to paint. She was an accomplished poet and particularly enjoyed writing poems for her daughter and grandchildren. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, loved animals and especially enjoyed feeding ducks.

Survivors include a daughter, Diane Ogden of Rogue River; a sister, Mary Jane Rice of Palmdale, California; a brother, Arthur Goss of Waunakee, Wisconsin; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville G. Hosking.
