Glen E. Moore
Cave Junction resident Glen Eugene Moore, 73, diagnosed Oct. 16, 2008 with cancer, passed quietly on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 27, 2008 in his home surrounded by family. A private, family memorial service will be held. Illinois Valley Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements. Cremation is scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to Illinois Valley Little League, the I.V. Section of Boys & Girls Club, or Lovejoy Hospice.
Glen Moore was born on Jan. 28, 1935 in Hartville, MO. to Finis & Fannie Moore. The youngest of seven children, he was preceded in death by his siblings Howard, Earl, Elsie, Owen, Jean and Lorean. At the age of 3 months Glen’s family relocated to California during the great “Dustbowl Migration” of 1935 and settled in Monterey County.
Glen graduated from Salinas Union High School and attended Hartnell College, where he excelled in academics and baseball. He was recognized as the team’s most valuable player in 1953, and was offered a career with a professional baseball franchise.
In 1953, Glen married his high school sweetheart, Dulcie Annette Lindsley. In 1960, they moved to Southern California, where they raised their four children; Becky, Cindy (who preceded Glen in death in 1978), Colleen and Sonny.
Glen was a big fan of softball and Little League. With his wife, he co-founded a girls’ softball league in Cypress, California so that his three daughters could practice their skills.
In 1999, after 25 years in the ceramic tile industry, Glen retired from his position as manager and moved to Cave Junction, where he enjoyed golfing, RV’ing and gardening. Glen shared his love of baseball with his grandchildren by coaching in I. V. Little League and serving as the umpire-in-chief and as a league board member.
He was quite active in supporting the Illinois Valley Chamber of Commerce, working on and attending many chamber-hosted events.
Glen is remembered by all who knew him as a man of great character, compassion and humor; a true gentleman, a devout Christian, and a loving husband, father, Papa and friend. He is survived by his wife, Dulcie; daughter Becky, her husband Lee Denehy and their children Timothy, Brandy and Danielle; by his daughter Colleen, her husband Steve Harding and their children Joshua, Ashley, Tiffany and Jonathan; and his son Sonny, his wife Lisa and their children Glen, Cindy, Racheal and Aldon. Glen also is survived by three great-grandchildren: Nichole, Kieran, and Brian, and many nieces and nephews.
