George Weston Ramsdell

George Weston Ramsdell passed away suddenly December 15, 2009 at Royale Gardens Health & Rehabilitation Center.

He was born April 9th, 1918 in Richland Center, Wisconsin to George Washington Ramsdell and Irma Dorcus Miller Ramsdell. He was fourth born of five children. Two sisters, Gertrude Aletha Austin, Mary Laska Ramsdell, and two brothers William Russell Ramsdell, and Edward Austin. All have preceded him in death. He attended grade school in Richland Center, Wisconsin and high school in Beloit, Wisconsin. He was inducted into the United States Army in 1945, and honorably discharged due to medical reasons. He married Charlotte Wayne in 1938 and had two daughters, Patricia Lane Callado, and Linda Maxine Atkins, two sons, Michael Weston Ramsdell, and Larry Alan Ramsdell. George and Charlotte were divorced in 1945 and he married Doris Frances Perkins in 1946 and had one daughter, Carol Doris.

In 1957 George, Doris, Larry and Carol moved to Missoula, Montana and began an adventurous pioneer life style. They spent many years living near the Salish-Kootania Indian Reservation where they bartered with local Native Americans. In 1967 George and Doris moved to the Rogue Valley. They lived in and around Medford for over 52 years. In 2001 they moved to Grants Pass to be with their daughter, Carol Gorton. George & Doris celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006. Doris preceded him in death in July of 2006. All his children, 16 grandchildren and multiple great-grandchildren survive him.

George was an accomplished musician owning and playing many different types of instruments. Creating his own one-man band, he made several tapes that he loved to play and share with his friends. George is loved and missed by all that know him.
