George Edward Malmstrom

George Edward Malmstrom, age 85, of Grants Pass, died January 21, 2017 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.

George was born May 15, 1931 in Brady, McCulloch County, Texas to Opal Earline Simmons and Elmer Earhart Malmstrom. From there the family moved to Melvin, Texas where he was brought up on the family farm. In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Navy. For four years, he was stationed in the Philippines, three years during the Korean Conflict. As a Seabee, he laid landing strips for air defense until he was honorably discharged in 1955. In 1955 in Los Angeles he married the love of his life, Anita Woodward. Together they had two children and 51 years of marriage. George was a heavy equipment operator and part of the teamsters union. In 1976 he moved to Grants Pass.

George was a member of the Elks and Moose lodges joining soon after he arrived in Grants Pass.

He was a ham radio operator Josephine County – KC7 JJG. His hobbies included working on cars, fishing, hunting, and traveling with Anita in their 5thwheel trailer throughout the United States.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie (Jay) Patterson of Grants Pass, Oregon and a son, Michael (Beth) Malmstrom of Hawthorne, California; a sister, Virginia Malmstrom of Texas; and four grandchildren, Brian Malmstrom, Megan Malmstrom, Lenea Patterson and Jeffrey Iaggi.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anita in 2006.

Family services will be held at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.
