Gary Kent Dye

November 1, 1939 — October 13, 2018

Gary Kent Dye, 78, a resident of Grants Pass, Oregon, for approximately 9 years passed away on October 13, 2018.

Gary was the son of Harold & Duane Dye and was born in St. Joseph, Mo. He had one sister, Linda Rudd who resides in FL. He was happily married to his soul mate and love of his life, Theresa Dye for 27 years until her passing in 2012.

Prior to moving to Oregon, he was a Sergeant with the West Chicago Police Department in Illinois for over 15 years. After his retirement he worked for West Chicago and St Charles High Schools.

One of his greatest joys through-out his life was restoring old cars. He loved to take a rusted-out frame and turn it into a work of art. He did everything from motors, body work, upholstery to award winning painting and pin stripping. He loved to teach his craft and his garage was always filled with those wanting to learn. His last project was a 1929 Model A Ford truck, that will be taken over and finished by his son-in-law (Glenn Stepp)

He served his country with pride in the United States Coast Guard.

Gary is survived by his 10 children: Debbie Dempsey (Buzz); Tammy Ma; Kristie Stepp (Glenn); Vickie Atkinson (Scott); Michele Johnston (George); Georgene Abbott; Vicki Parker (Jack); Nick Dye; Tony Dye (Jenn); and Summer Dye. 13 Grandchildren: BJ (Danielle), Sarah (Robert); Tim; Richard (Mimi); Shannon (Tory); Katie (Chris); Laryssa (TJ); Ashley, Alex, Jacob; George, Sarah, and Melissa. 10 Great Grandchildren: Maddie; Lanie; Maxwell; Abigail; Liam; Dylan; Ryan; Mason; Roman; and Jordyn; and his sister Linda whom he affectionally called “Pete”.

He was preceded in death by his wife Theresa, his parents Harold and Duane, and his son Johnny.

Services are being held at Hull & Hull Funeral Home, Grants Pass Oregon Oct 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m.
