Frank Nelson Rolph, age 88, of Grants Pass, died Friday, November 27, 2009 at The Suites.

A viewing will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at The Suites in Grants Pass with The Reverend Barbara P. Rolph officiating.

Remembrances may be made to Evans Valley Fire Department, 8677 E Evans Creek Road, Rogue River, Oregon 97537.

Frank was born September 4, 1921 in Marseilles, Illinois to Frank & Flossie (Elliott) Rolph. In 1940 he graduated from Fremont High School in California and then attended Long Beach State and UCLA. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. He was an aerospace engineer and over the years worked for North American Aviation, Douglas Aircraft Co, MacDonald Douglas Aircraft Co, and Lockheed Aircraft Co. He received several special achievement awards from NASA and the military. In 1978 he moved from Palos Verdes, California to Rogue River and in 2007 he moved to Grants Pass.

Frank was a licensed California Professional Engineer and his memberships included American Society of Tool & Manufacturing Engineers (ASTME); Kiwanis; Fryers; Family Motor Coach (FMCA); Bethany Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir; and the Lions Club.

He volunteered with the Evans Valley Fire Department where he was past fire chief and was a Boy Scouts leader for many years.

His hobbies included fishing, camping, golfing, and sailing. He also enjoyed square dancing and singing with barbershop quartets.

Survivors include a son, Jim Rolph and wife Barbara of Rogue River; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Rolph in 1990.
