Floyd Welton Hugoboom

Floyd Welton Hugoboom, age 88, of Grants Pass, died Sunday, March 20, 2011 in Corpus Christi, Texas after traveling for over four months through the Southern states to Key West, Florida and was returning home when he needed emergency surgery for a bowel obstruction.

A viewing will be from 8:00 a.m. to 12 noon, Friday, April 8, 2011 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A memorial service will be at 9:30 a.m., Friday, April 8, 2011 at Spring Meadow Retirement Community, 1357 Redwood Circle. Interment with military honors will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2011 at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Pastor Ron Marsh will officiate at both services.

Floyd was born January 30, 1923 in Littleton, Colorado to Ross & Margaret Hugoboom. When he completed his schooling, the family moved to San Pedro, California. After commercial fishing and joining the United States Coast Guard, he met his wife, Audrey Moskovita and in 1942 they married. In 1946 he received his honorable discharge and in 1947 they moved to the Grants Pass, Oregon area. From 1947 to 1972 he worked in various occupations including Cave Junction Feed Store manager, owner of his 76 Service Station at 6th & J Street and worked at Southern Oregon Plywood, Wilke Oldsmobile, and Western Auto and then became an audiologist opening the Southern Oregon Hearing Center. He also enjoyed working as an EMT for Medford Ambulance from 1965 to 1972. In 1972 Floyd & Audrey moved to Redwood City, California to operate large foster boy’s homes. They later opened Samaritan Ranch in El Cajon, California which they operated from 1975 to 1978 completing over 20 years of foster care for up to 36 boys at a time. They then managed Senior Housing until their retirement in 1992 when they returned to Grants Pass and along with several of their friends from Parkway Christian Center joined RV MAPPS, a mission program which took them over many states and Canada doing construction work on churches and teen challenge centers until 2004. They lived at the Bridge Assisted Living for several years until Floyd was widowed in 2010 and he moved to Spring Meadow Retirement Community. At Spring Meadow he met Maggie McGall and Floyd intended to joyfully spend the rest of his life with her.

Survivors include his wife, Maggie McGall; and two sons, Floyd Gareth Hugoboom and William John Hugoboom.

He was preceded in death by his wife, of 69 years, Audrey Hugoboom and a grandson, Brent “Woody” Hugoboom.
