Floyd Clifford Covey

July 12, 1914 — March 7, 2015

Floyd Clifford Covey, age 100, a longtime resident of Grants Pass died at his daughter’s Bakersfield, CA home on March 7, 2015.

A service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors, 612 NW A Street, Grants Pass. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery.

Born in South Dakota, the youngest of five children, he and his wife moved to Grants Pass in 1939 to work with his father in the gladiola fields. He later worked in the lumber and plywood industries. In May 2011 he moved to Bakersfield, California.

He and his first wife had three children. He later married Marjorie June John on July 31, 1954 in Grants Pass, OR. Floyd was a foster parent for many Grants Pass children in need and provided them with a second chance for a successful life.

Floyd assisted many neighbors by repairing their equipment and homes allowing them to continue living in their homes.

Survivors include his children Fairlyn R. Dillon, Sherry A. Desmarais and Lonney L. Covey, all of Bakersfield, California; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Marjorie Covey; parents, Byron E. Covey & Evelyn M. (Harr) Covey; three sisters, Beryl Covey, Evelyn Bradley and Fern Vineyard; and a brother, Basil Covey.
