Florence Irene Springhart

February 18, 1920 — January 28, 2010

Age 89, of of Grants Pass died January 28, 2010 at Highland House Nursing Home.Florence was born Feb. 18, 1920 in Everett, Massachusetts, the middle child of five children. All four branches of the military were represented in her family by Florence and her three brothers during WWII.

She met her husband, George, while stationed in Tacoma, Washington at Keiser Field. She was honorably discharged in Nov. 1945 and moved to Detroit, Michigan where she and George started a family, having 3 children. After 17 years in Detroit, the family moved to Covina, California where they lived for 11 years before retiring to New Port Richey, Florida. In 2001 Florence and George moved to Grants Pass.

While in Florida, Florence became very active in the Women's Army Corp Veteran Association, Hernando Chapter 97. Also at that time, Florence was appointed to the National Honor Guard to represent Women Vets. She immensely enjoyed parades and the annual luncheons of Women Vets put on by the Veterans Domiciliary in White City. Her ashes will be buried at the Eagle Point National Cemetary. No service planned.

Florence is survived by her husband George; brothers Arthur and Henry; daughter Paula, grandchildren; Teal, Michael, Elicia, Nathan, Aaron, and Kyle; daughter-in-law Rhonda and son-in-law Scott. She was proceeded in death by her two sons, George Springhart Jr. and Bobby Springhart.

The family wants to especially thank the caregivers who helped keep her independent. Words cannot express enough gratitude for the excellent care, unwavering love and support shown her by the aids and staff of Highland House Nursing Home.
