Fern Lorraine Noah, 88, of Rogue River, died Thursday, April 4, at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford.

A Celebration of Life is planned at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, at the clubhouse at Table Rock Mobile Village, 2385 Table Rock Road, Medford, with the Rev. Mitch Banks officiating. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements. A private burial is planned earlier in the week at the Eagle Point National Cemetery.

She was born June 30, 1924, in Chico, Calif., to William 'Doug' Douglass and Vera Vinsonhaler, who later divorced. As a child, she spent her summers in Mount Shasta with her father and stepmother, Betty, who had a horse ranch and oil distribution company, and the rest of the year in Sacramento, where her mother worked as a secretary for an auto dealer.

She attended Sacramento Junior College for two years before transferring to the University of California at Berkeley, where in 1946 she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in languages. That October, she married her high-school sweetheart, Fred Noah, in Orland, Calif. The couple moved to Seattle, Lemon Grove, Calif., and Los Angeles before settling on Savage Creek in Rogue River in 1954. She was a social worker with the state until she had her three children, all of whom survive.

An avid reader and published writer, she led a Christian writers group in the Grants Pass area for a time. She also was president of the local chapter of Aglow International and was active at times in Child Evangelism Fellowship, Christian Women?s Club, and the Presbyterian Church. For many years she led the Savage Creek Bible Study group.

She is survived by a son, John; two daughters, Cathy and Susie; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2009 and her half-brother, William Douglass, in 2012.
