Evelyn Jean Virden, age 81, of Merlin, died Monday, October 12, 2009 at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

A viewing will be from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors.

A funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors. Private interment will be at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Hull & Hull Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

Remembrances may be to Paralyzed Veterans of America, 801 Eighteenth Street NW, Washington DC 20006-3517.

Evelyn was born January 20, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska. On May 28, 1955 in Los Angeles, California she married James O. Virden. In 1964 she moved from Sun Valley, California to Grants Pass and then moved to Merlin 20 years ago.

She was a supporter of Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Her hobbies included knitting, reading the Bible, watching television and movies, and traveling – especially to the Oregon coast. Her most favorite foods were hamburgers, oreo cookies and milk, and chocolate.

Survivors include her husband, James O. Virden of Merlin; two children, Deborah Robinson and James D. Virden both of Grants Pass; a brother, Gary H. Orton of Grants Pass; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, John Metcalf.
