Eunice Doreen Mathews

Long time Grants Pass resident Eunice Doreen (Rossiter) Mathews passed away December 9, 2020 at her residence in Grants Pass. Eunice was born April 4th, 1934 in Grants Pass, OR to Albert and Ruth Rossiter. Eunice grew up in the Jerome Prairie and Cave Junction areas moving back and forth to the Mill camps where her dad worked. She attended Jerome Prairie, Lorna Byrne and Grants Pass High School.

Eunice met her husband Melvin Mathews in 1952 and after a speedy courtship they married April 11, 1953 in Reno, Nevada. They were married for 50 years. Eunice worked at Oregon Technical Products and Caveman Campers before retiring. She enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with her loving family and friends. Eunice was a lifelong member of the Followers’ of Christ Church in Grants Pass.

She is survived by her daughter and son–in-law Sherry and David Shippy of Grants Pass, daughter and son-in-law Connie and Brett Fillis, of Murphy, granddaughter Eva Kay Shippy of Grants Pass, OR, grandson and granddaughter-in-law Mike and Nina Fillis, great-grandsons Charlie Fillis and Dylan Barge’ of Wimer, OR, grandson and granddaughter–in-law Levi and Melissa Fillis, great-granddaughter Payton Fillis and great-grandson Chase Fillis of Bonners Ferry, ID, great-granddaughter Hannah Buchanan of Lynden, WA, great-granddaughter Kaylee Fillis of Grants Pass, OR, brothers Don Rossiter of Grants Pass, OR, and Randy (Junie) Rossiter of Newport, OR, sisters Faye (Bill) Neitro of Aloha, OR and Eileen Beagley of Caldwell, ID. She has 2 step-children, 4 step-grandchildren, 7 step-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Mathews in 2003, granddaughter Chelsa Knowles in 2019, dad Albert in 1991, mother Ruth in 1993 and son Danny Lee in 1959.
